(PLACERVILLE, CA) – The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors formally adopted its Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget, in accordance with State law which requires the adoption no later than October 2nd. The $1.06 billion is 3.7 percent more than that FY 2024-25 Recommended Budget approved by the Board June 11th, reflecting adjusted final County fund balances, State budget impacts and other departmental needs identified after the Recommended budget was approved.
“While the Adopted budget is balanced and meets all statutory requirements, funds the General Reserve and General Fund Contingency at levels required by policy, it relies on the use of $12.6 million in one-time funding from a retiree health rate holiday, the implementation of the ARPA spending plan, and other sources to balance the budget, which is not sustainable,” said Chief Administrative Officer, Tiffany Schmid.
“The County has enjoyed a decade of financial growth which facilitated the support of many of our external County partners,” she continued. “The Board should expect an increased theme of focusing County resources on internal County operations and services, including restraint and exploring alternative funding sources and service delivery models.”
“Difficult decisions and strong fiscal discipline will be essential, and the employees and residents of our County are relying on use to lead and deliver results,” Schmid added.
Schmid expects to present ideas in that regard and seek Board direction in November to develop a plan for a sustainable and structurally balanced budget that will continue investment in the County’s workforce and infrastructure to allow the delivery of essential services residents and visitors deserve.
