Our Mission
El Dorado County Code Enforcement safeguards community well‑being by upholding the Building Standards Code and local ordinances through fair, consistent, and education‑focused enforcement. We promote voluntary compliance, protect life, health, and safety, and preserve the rural character of our County by partnering with residents, businesses, and allied agencies to resolve violations with professionalism, integrity, and respect.
Our Vision
El Dorado County Code Enforcement envisions a community where safety, lawful development, and environmental stewardship are embraced as shared responsibilities. Through transparent processes, consistent application of State and County codes, and respectful engagement with residents, we strive to cultivate a County where voluntary compliance is the norm, rural character is preserved, and every neighborhood can thrive.
The purpose of Code Enforcement is to protect the health and safety of El Dorado County residents by enforcing minimum standards for property maintenance as well as procedures for abatement of public nuisances.
Unpermitted construction, substandard housing, unsafe/vacant buildings, VHR violations (except current disturbances), cannabis cultivation (more than 6 plants or unpermitted commercial), planning violations (buildings, fences, and gates within easements), unpermitted special events when a permit is required.
El Dorado County Code Enforcement responds to citizen's complaints to protect the health and safety of residents. Though much of the information regarding a complaint is public information, the complainant's information is kept confidential from the public. Anonymous complaints are discouraged.
