COMING TO EL DORADO HILLS IN JUNE 2024
(Placerville, CA) – The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Area Agency on Aging Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP), and the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Sacramento will present a free, four-part series in June 2024 on senior caregiving.
“This educational series will provide valuable instruction and support for people in El Dorado County who currently care for or plan to care for a family member or friend aged 60 years or older,” said Jordan Brushia, Program Coordinator for the El Dorado County FCSP. Series topics include:
- June 4: Ten Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s - Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias cause changes in memory, thinking and behavior that interfere with daily life. Participants of this class will learn the ten common warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease and what to watch for in themselves and others. The program covers typical age-related changes, how to approach someone about memory concerns, early detection, the benefits of a diagnosis and the diagnostic process, Alzheimer’s Association resources, and more.
- JUNE 11:Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors - Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. Participants of this class will learn about the impact of the disease, the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, Alzheimer’s disease stages and risk factors, current research and treatments available to address some symptoms, and Alzheimer’s Association resources.
- JUNE 18: Effective Communication Strategies – This class will teach caregivers to decode verbal and behavioral communication of someone with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Participants leave with strategies for meaningful connection with people who have early, middle, and late-stage dementia.
- JUNE 25: County of El Dorado Area Agency on Aging Family Caregiver Support Program – Learn how to access and navigate El Dorado County FCSP information and assistance services, local care resources, legal support, caregiver and respite services, long-term care referrals, transitional care management and more within the County of EL Dorado. Q&A to follow.
