FREE AGING AND CAREGIVER MINISERIES
COMING TO SOUTH LAKE TAHOE IN JUNE 2024

                                                                  

(PLACERVILLE, CA) – The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Area Agency on Aging Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP) will present a free, three-part series in June 2024 on senior caregiving.

 

“We are pleased to offer this educational series to community members,” said Jordan Brushia, Program Coordinator with the El Dorado County FCSP. “This series will be very helpful for individuals who currently care for or plan to care for a family member or friend who is 60 years of age or older.” Series topics include:

 

· June 6: Preventing Scams – This educational class, presented by detectives from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, will teach participates how to protect themselves and their family members from various types of scams, including love and romance scams, debit card and gift card scams, Publisher’s Clearing House and Cryto-fraud scams, and others. Preregister early for this popular presentation!

 

· JUNE 13: Senior Legal Issues – This educational class will be presented by the County of El Dorado Area Agency on Aging’s Senior Legal Services Program. At this class, participants will learn the legal rights and responsibilities of health care, being a financial agent, and many other responsibilities associated with ensuring a loved ones’ health and well-being. This presentation includes discussion about Physician Order for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST).

 

· JUNE 20: Family Caregiver Information and Assistance – This class will be presented by the El Dorado County FCSP. The focus of this class will be on caregivers. 36 million devoted U.S. caregivers provide 36 billion hours of care per year, according to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). The FCSP team will present care resources, community supports, transitional care and long-term care options. Most importantly, the class will include how caregivers can advocate for their health as a caregiver.

 

Participants of the educational series may attend any or all of the classes. All classes and materials are offered free of charge; voluntary contributions are gratefully accepted. The classes will be given as an educational opportunity only; no solicitation of services will be presented.

 

The classes will be held on Thursdays, June 6, 13, and 20, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe CA. For questions, please call (530) 621-6151, email FCSP@edcgov.us, or scan the provided QR code with your smartphone.
