(PLACERVILLE, CA) –The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Area Agency on Aging Family Caregiver Support Program will present a free, four-part series on senior caregiving in October 2024. The educational series will provide instruction and support for people who currently care for or plan to care for a family member or friend aged 60 and older.
“This valuable series will include in-depth information about Alzheimer’s disease, tips to better communicate with a person affected by dementia, and information on local supports and resources for caregivers,” said Jordan Brushia, Program Coordinator with the El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging. “The County is proud to partner with the Alzheimer's Association of Northern California to offer the series.”
Classes will be held on Wednesdays, October 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2024, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Placerville Senior Center, 937 Spring Street, Placerville CA. The series topics are as follows:

During this class, participants will learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s disease, the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, Alzheimer’s disease stages and risk factors, current research and treatments available to address symptoms, and Alzheimer’s Association resources.
OCTOBER 23: Effective Communication Strategies – During this class, caregivers will learn how to decode verbal and behavioral communication of someone with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Participants will leave with strategies for meaningful connection with people who are in early, middle and late-stage dementia.
