El Dorado County's Department of Transportation (DOT) will be performing two 1,100 cubic yard concrete deliveries and placements on Mosquito Road between 0.6 miles north to 0.8 miles south of the Mosquito Road Bridge. The construction work will require full closure of Mosquito Road at the gates during two separate windows: beginning Friday, April 5, 2024 at 8:00 pm continuing through Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 5:00 pm., and beginning Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10:00 pm continuing through Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 5:00 pm. A detour has been established via Rock Creek Road for which motorists should expect delays and allow extra time for travel. The volume of vehicular traffic will also necessitate a "Trip to Green" detour on US HWY 50 from Friday April 5, 2024 at 9:00 pm until Saturday April 6, 2024 at 11:00 am.

US HWY 50 April 5, 2024 to April 6, 2024 9:00 pm to 11:00 am "Trip to Green": Detours at Schnell School Road (EB) and Placerville Drive (WB)
Mosquito Road & Mosquito Bridge April 12, 2024 to April 13, 2024 10:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Closure at the gates

The "Trip to Green" will turn all east and west bound traffic lights on HWY 50 green and will only allow for right hand turns from HWY 50 at the 3 intersections for Spring Street, Canal Street, and Bedford Avenue. The public will utilize the detours at Schnell School Road exit for east bound traffic and Placerville Drive exit for west bound traffic to access HWY 49 and/or downtown Placerville. Pedestrian crosswalks will also be closed at the 3 intersections during this time. Pedestrian Over-Crossings at Coloma Street/Center Street and Bedford Avenue will be the pedestrian access across HWY 50. Detours will be clearly delineated, and flaggers will be at the intersections to help reduce confusion.

The Mosquito Road closures and "Trip to Green" are necessary to enhance motorist and worker safety while the County's Contractor performs concrete delivery and placement of 1,100 cubic yards of concrete during each closure for the Pier 2 and Pier 3 footings at the north side of the Project. This equates to 120 concrete truckloads at an estimated 10 truckloads leaving and 10 empties returning per hour at the concrete batch plant. On average, a concrete truck will be driving up/down HWY 50 and Mosquito Road every 5-6 minutes. Closure of Mosquito Road at the gates and implementation of the "Trip to Green" on HWY 50 on April 5 and April 6 will reduce conflicts between the concrete trucks, pumps, and workers during the nighttime concrete placement during the hours described above. The concrete truck route will be from the Project batch plant near Finnon Lake (Rancho Cordova) across Rock Creek Road to Mosquito Cut-off Road, and down Mosquito Road to the Pier 3 location at the 3rd switchback on the north side of the river.

The public will need to utilize Rock Creek Road for all access during the road closures and expect delays during the nighttime concrete operation. Additionally, drivers are advised that if they must be on the roads during the hours of the concrete placement, to be extra cautious at the intersections of Rock Creek Road/Mosquito Cutoff Road and Mosquito Cutoff Road/Mosquito Road. Flaggers will be stationed above the gates at adequate turn around areas and to coordinate with Emergency Services if needed.

The Project Team strives to complete this work and detour while minimizing impacts to the surrounding Community. The "Trip to Green" will reduce conflicts between the public, concrete trucks, pumps, and workers during the nighttime concrete delivery and placement. This work is scheduled at night to reduce the impacts to the public and business owners.

The County sincerely appreciates the cooperation and patience of motorists that use this roadway, and we apologize for any inconvenience resulting from these closures and the "Trip to Green" detour.
