(PLACERVILLE, CA) -- El Dorado County's Department of Transportation (DOT) scheduled delivery of 1,100 cubic yards of concrete delivery and placement on Mosquito Road between 0.6 miles north to 0.8 miles south of the Mosquito Road Bridge is delayed for the second time due to weather. The construction work will require full closure of Mosquito Road at the gates now beginning Friday, March 29, 2024 at 10:00 pm, and continue through Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 5:00 pm. A detour has been established via Rock Creek Road for which motorists should expect delays and allow extra time for travel.

The continued delays are due to the recent weather. While the weather looks good now, the past storms have caused delays in other aspects of the construction which in turn pushes the concrete delivery system out.

Closure at the gates

The Mosquito Road closure is necessary to ensure motorist and worker safety while the County's contractor performs delivery and placement of 1,100 cubic yards of concrete for the Pier 3 footing at the north side of the Project. This equates to 120 concrete truckloads at an estimated 10 truckloads leaving and 10 empties returning per hour at the concrete batch plant.

Closure of Mosquito Road at the gates will reduce conflicts between the concrete trucks, pumps, and workers during the nighttime concrete placement from 10:00 pm Friday night through 5:00 pm Saturday afternoon.

The concrete truck route will be from the project's batch plant near Finnon Lake across Rock Creek Road to Mosquito Cut-off Road, and down Mosquito Road to the Pier 3 location at the 3rd switchback on the north side of the river.

The public will need to utilize Rock Creek Road for all access and expect delays during the nighttime concrete operation. Additionally, drivers are advised that if they must be on the roads during the hours of the concrete placement, extra caution should be exercised at the intersections of Rock Creek Road/Mosquito Cutoff Road and Mosquito Cutoff Road/Mosquito Road. Flaggers will be stationed above the gates at adequate turn around areas and to coordinate with Emergency Services if needed.

The County sincerely appreciates the cooperation and patience of motorists that use this roadway, and we apologize for any inconvenience resulting from this closure.
