  • We should be hearing any time whether El Dorado County is awarded a grant from Round 2 of the We Prosper Together funding for the Building El Dorado County’s Working Lands Pipeline Management. 

  • Golden Sierra is supporting EDC Probation Department’s application for a grant of Prop 47 funding for an assessment and reentry hub. 

Attended Cleaner Air Partnership luncheon where Kathleen Aziz from SACOG was the guest speaker.  SACOG is working on outreach to create projects in mobility zones, and El Dorado County has one mobility zone in Georgetown/Coloma/Lotus where outreach is currently being performed to gather input for potential projects. 

 

Monday, 7/28 
SOFAR Steering Committee virtual meeting.  Discussed topics for upcoming in-person collaborative meeting and the recently announced reorganization within the forest service. 

Attended Shingle Springs Community Design Workshop #2.  Staff did a great job of breaking the attendees into groups to discuss and share thoughts on specific proposals in the Design Standards.

Chaired the EDWA board of directors meeting.  The board adopted the 2026-30 Strategic Plan and the Recommended Budget. 

Supervisor Veerkamp and I, as the Homeless Ad Hoc Committee members, met with staff to discuss the status of the permanent Navigation Shelter plans.  Item will be coming to the board soon. 

Attended Fair Preview Night.  Appreciated all of the work that goes into making our fair a success. 

Thursday, 6/12
Chaired the RCRC ESJPA board of directors meeting.  Much discussion by counties on the challenges of meeting State mandates.  Heads up that CARB is conducting surprise visits at landfills and imposing daily fines. 

Attended MCWRA Regional Roundtable in Tuolumne.  Good sharing of information regarding the importance of communication between agencies.  Several attendees reported hearing good takeaways.  This could become a model for future roundtables.

MCWRA board of directors meeting.  Recap of recent activities, including Legislative Advocacy Day and Regional Roundtable. 

Monday, 6/16
Received email update from Biomass Consultant that the draft Bioeconomy Development Opportunity Zone report is in review with our regional partners.  Expect final report within a month or so.

Met with Parks and Rec Commissioner candidate.  Will appoint on 7/15 BOS Consent Calendar. 

Thursday, 6/19
Briefing with staff and District IV Planning Commissioner to prepare for the Shingle Springs Community Design Standards workshop on 6/23. 

Attended Pioneer Community Energy board meeting.  I voted ‘no’ on the proposed 3-5 year goal for reserves because the main mission of Pioneer is to create customer savings on their utility bills and the upcoming expansion efforts could take a lot of resources.

Attended virtual SOFAR Steering Committee meeting.  Discussion regarding scheduling in person Collaborative meetings. 

Supervisor Ferrero and I as the Planning Commission Ad Hoc Committee met with staff to recommend updates for the Planning Commission bylaws and the operation of the Planning Commission. 

Supervisor Veerkamp and I as the Library Ad Hoc Committee met with staff regarding the Library Ad Hoc Committee met with the Library Director regarding plans for the upcoming ballot measures to fund library services. 

Attended Shingle Springs Design Standards workshop. I gave the opening remarks.   Staff did a great job of explaining what the design standards will do for the community and economic development.  Great engagement with the community.

First 5 El Dorado Commission meeting. Approved the 2025/26 budget and approved the 2025-28 Strategic Action Plan.

Tuesday, 5/13
Follow up emails that SOFAR Collaborative has secured a funding source to continue implementation of the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy. This funding will be formalized in an MOU between SOFAR and the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council.

RCRC, GSFA, & GSCA Executive Committee board meeting. I did ask that we continue to push back on the State for local control.

Signs Ad Hoc Committee, Supervisor Veerkamp and I met with staff to discuss sign ordinance update.

Met with community members regarding proposed Auburn to Cool Trail Bridge. My office is setting follow-up meetings with stakeholders.

Pioneer Community Energy board meeting. Pioneer staff followed up with me for an opportunity to apply for PG&E funding for a microgrid in El Dorado County to increase resiliency. I am working with our consultant on this.

Attended Pioneer Community Energy regular board meeting.  The board approved an agreement with FuSE Carbon Technologies for Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) services.  FuSE will be reaching out to all Pioneer member jurisdictions to gather information on EV charging stations to submit for credits which are then sold for revenues.  Interestingly, at the time of the presentation, El Dorado County has the highest number of EV charging stations.

Supervisor Turnboo and I attended the Sheriff’s 1 Pill Can Kill presentation at Union Mine High School.  Well-done and much-needed messaging to our youth about the dangers of taking non-prescription drugs.

Attended Ag Round Table dinner at the American Legion Hall.  The messaging from the panelists was concerning.  If you hear anything from any of the Ag community representatives it may be a good idea to check in with the Ag Commissioner for clarification.

Virtual monthly SOFAR Steering Committee meeting.  The committee is working on finding funding for a facilitator and also planning a full Collaborative meeting in mid June.

Meeting with PARC (Protect American River Coalition) regarding proposed non-motorized bridge project.  Setting up meeting with ARCC (American River Community Coalition) to gather their perspective on the project.

Met with Placer County Supervisor Shanti Landon to connect on our RCRC partnership. 

Virtual Pioneer Community Energy expansion ad hoc committee.  There is a lot of interest in joining Pioneer with increasing utility costs and Pioneer wants to take a measured approach to expansion. 

Attended DOT’s public meeting on the Ponderosa Interchange Improvement projects.  About 75 people attended and had good questions and comments.

HHSA Director and I met with the El Dorado Food Bank General Manager and board members to discuss how we can collaborate on providing mobile services to the community.

Attended Auburn Lake Trails Fire Safe Council Community Meeting.  Appreciated all of the first responders who participated and the great turnout by the community.

Attended RCRC meeting.  I did ask during Member County Concerns if any other counties were having issues with SB 35 taking away local land use authority and a few other supervisors acknowledged that they were, so I asked for the board to consider creating an ad hoc.  I also brought up funding for IHSS workers and several counties acknowledged that they are also struggling and would like increased funding from the State.

Chaired the RCRC ESJPA meeting.  Disappointing to learn that SB 54 that was intended to make manufacturers responsible for creating truly recyclable packaging has been delayed by the Governor.

As the Chair of the El Dorado Water Agency (EDWA), participated in Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) conference in Washington, D.C. In addition to the conference, EDWA held meetings with Federal legislators and agencies regarding water-related policies and support.

While in Washington, D.C. there was time in my schedule that allowed me to Zoom and participate in the BOS discussion and direction to staff on the Sign Ordinance Update.

During the RCRC annual reception I had the honor of presenting Senator Ben Allen with one of two Rural Leadership Awards. Even though Senator Allen represents Los Angeles County, he takes the time to engage with rural counties and introduce legislation that addresses our needs. Unfortunately, Senator Allen’s district was not able to attend the reception because his district in Los Angeles was heavily impacted by the fires.

Sunday, 1/12
Received morning text that the Mt. Murphy Bridge was closed due to damage by a DUI driver, much like happened in 2021. DOT staff was on scene and assessing the damage, working with Caltrans to determine path to repairs and reopening.

Attended the Garden Valley Fire station breakfast.

After breakfast, stopped at the Mt. Murphy Bridge to personally see the damage and talk with on site DOT staff. Staff was advising passersby to prepare for at least a week of closure. My office is advising residents to check and subscribe to the DOT Road Work Alerts webpage for status and check the Mt. Murphy Bridge webpage for updates on the bridge replacement project. I have asked DOT staff to review and update the webpage accordingly.

Monday, 1/13
Corresponded with the Chair of the Coloma Lotus Advisory Committee (CLAC) for a DOT update on the Mt. Murphy Bridge, so DOT staff will be at the next CLAC meeting on February 6, 2025, which starts at 6:30pm at the Gold Trail Grange in Coloma.

Attended First 5 El Dorado board meeting. Emma Owens, Principal Management Analyst, Chief Administrative Office, and Bryce Lovell, Library Director, gave a presentation on the transition of the Hubs with our changing revenue streams. An update from First 5 El Dorado with HHSA is planned for our January 28 BOS meeting.

Also at the First 5 meeting, Executive Director Kathleen Guerrero announced her retirement effective April 1. We are sad to see her go as she has been a strong advocate for families in our county, but we are happy for her to begin this new chapter in her life.

Lastly, I announced that I am exploring with HHSA a community calendar to show all of the resources and events that are available to our communities, and the First 5 board was very excited for the potential of having resources in one, easy to find location.

Received a Press Release that the Mt. Murphy Bridge repairs were made and the bridge was reopened that day at 4:30pm. Huge appreciation goes out to our DOT for making the repairs and communication with the residents a priority. The bridge was closed in the early morning hours of January 12 and reopened on January 22, which is a huge accomplishment given the extent of the damage and the age of the bridge. I look forward to supporting the bridge replacement project as it moves forward.

Virtual SOFAR Collaborative’s Steering Committee meeting. The funding for the Collaborative facilitator has ended. The Collaborative did not complete its Strategic Planning process last year, so the Steering Committee approved creating an Ad Hoc to explore funding mechanisms and potential facilitation methods.

Meeting with Library Director. Update that the Georgetown Library lease has been extended.
