(PLACERVILLE, CA) –

El Dorado County and partners are celebrating “National Bike Month” in May with a Grand Opening event for the Missouri Flat Road Bike/Pedestrian Overcrossing and a Community Bike Ride on El Dorado Trail on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

"Bicycling has been shown to improve citizens' health, well-being, and quality of life, while also contributing to the economy of El Dorado County, attracting tourism dollars and local business spending," said District 3 Board of Supervisor, Brian Veerkamp. "We're happy to celebrate this long-awaited safe connection to our great El Dorado Trail in my district."

The public and county residents are invited to join the all-ages, family-friendly Community Bike Ride, meeting at the Ray Lawyer Park & Ride lot at 8:30am. The Bike Ride will traverse El Dorado Trail and arrive at the Missouri Flat Road Bike/Pedestrian Overcrossing for the Grand Opening event that starts at 9:30am.

“The Missouri Flat Overcrossing is an important safety connection for pedestrians and bicyclists between El Dorado and Placerville, as well as providing better access to Old Depot Bike Park and the Historical Railroad Park for residents,” said City of Placerville Councilmember Jackie Neau.

The Grand Opening event will feature a ribbon cutting, remarks by officials, County Parks and Trails Division informational booth, El Dorado Transportation Commission booth, community group booths, and more. Visit the Grand Opening and Community Bike Ride event website for complete details.

More information on El Dorado Trail can be found at the Parks and Trails Division website, along with the National Bike Month Proclamation passed by the Board of Supervisors May 20th.

The Missouri Flat Road Bike/Pedestrian Overcrossing was funded primarily through Regional Active Transportation Program funding awarded by Sacramento Area Council of Governments in a competitive process. Additional supporting fund sources included Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ), Transportation Development Act/Local Transportation Funds (TDA/LTF), and Urban Surface Transportation Block Grant (USTBG) funding.
