Air District staff are available to respond to outdoor air quality problems at all times. The Air District does not respond to indoor Air Quality complaints. Information on Indoor Air Quality from the California Department of Health Services can be found at:

Air Quality issues involving smoke, dust or odor can often be addressed and corrected by the Air Quality staff. You may report an outdoor Air Pollution complaint by:

After regular hours, holidays and weekends call the assigned staff person at (530) 957-3466 or call the County non-emergency dispatch line (530) 621-6600. If calling the dispatch center, ask the dispatcher to contact the Air Quality Management District staff.

Your Information:
The Air Quality Dispatch personnel will need your name, address, and phone number for additional details or directions. Your name and phone number will remain confidential. Please be advised that AQMD will not respond to anonymous complaints.
The Specific Nature of Your Complaint:
If you are reporting illegal burning, tell us what is being burned. If dust or odor, what is the source. Description of the dust problem area or site including address, type of activity causing the problem and any other information and circumstances which will enable the Air Quality Management Department (AQMD) to respond in a timely manner.
Where is the Problem?
You must provide the street address where the problem is occurring. Air District staff will not respond after dark unless the site address for the site where the problem is originating is provided. Locating an illegal burn pile after hours usually can not be done without an address.
Who should the air pollution inspector inspect?
If you don't know the person or company's name, please describe the person or business that is causing the problem.
When does the problem occur?
It is best to call while the problem is occurring, if at all possible. If there is a recurring air pollution problem, jot down the date and time and note any pattern. We can only respond to a call while the problem is occurring.
An Air Pollution Inspector will investigate your complaint as soon as possible. Depending on the inspector's findings, the investigation may result in a verbal warning, the issuance of a written Notice to Comply, or an issuance of a Notice of Violation to the responsible party. In the case of serious air emission offense, there may be a monetary penalty, or the matter may result in civil or criminal prosecution.
