The Superior Court of El Dorado County application period to serve as a Civil Grand Juror for the term of July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, is now OPEN. Applications will be accepted until May 3, 2026.
Selection Process
Qualified applicants are placed in a pool where 19 are randomly selected by the Superior Court to serve as Civil Grand Jurors. Additional individuals are selected as alternates, who may be sworn in during the term if a vacancy occurs. Civil Grand Jurors serve a 1-year term, from July 1 through June 30 of the following year.
Eligibility
Serving on the El Dorado County Civil Grand Jury is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in your community. No special training or background is required, and diversity among members is considered one of the Civil Grand Jury’s greatest strengths.
Under Penal Code Section 893, a person is qualified to serve if they:
- are a citizen of the United States
- 18 years or older
- resident of the county for one year immediately before being selected
- are in possession of natural faculties, of ordinary intelligence, of sound judgment, and of fair character
- have sufficient knowledge of the English language
A person is not eligible to act as a grand juror if any of the following apply:
- The person is serving as a trial juror in any court of this state
- The person has been discharged as a grand juror in any court of this state within one year
- The person has been convicted of malfeasance in office or any felony or other high crime
- The person is serving as an elected public officer
To be successful as a grand juror:
- You must commit to serving a full 12-month period from July 1st to June 30th.
- You must be able to devote 10 to 20 hours per week to the grand jury service.
- You must attend a minimum of four (4) general meetings each month in Placerville. Other time spent on meetings, writing, and research is also required. It is possible to schedule time off for vacations or limited emergencies.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, able to effectively use an internet browser such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome for research, and capable of creating, editing, and formatting documents using Microsoft Word.
- You must be available for two days of training conducted near the beginning of the term.
Meetings

Once selected, the Jury will decide when and how often they will meet.
Where
The Jury meets in the Grand Jury Room at 360 Fair Lane, Bldg. B, in Placerville.
