El Dorado County's Vector Control District was formed in 1963 in response to citizen complaints regarding an abundance of pest mosquitoes. The opportunity to establish a mosquito abatement district was passed over in favor of a county service area which would be governed by the County Board of Supervisors. In 1980 the District was upgraded to a Vector Control District. The District belongs to the Mosquito and Vector Control Association of California (MVCAC) and interacts regionally and nationally with other public agencies. The District's service area encompasses 195 square miles from the crest of the Sierra Nevada mountain range near Echo Summit to the shore of Lake Tahoe in both the City of South Lake Tahoe and the unincorporated area of El Dorado County. Our mission is to provide quality Vector Control services and protect the public health and safety with minimal impact to the environment.
