Overview

Our staff is dedicated to assisting the residents of El Dorado County through our various programs and services, including, but not limited to: pesticide registration and regulation, nursery inspections and compliance, organic production, pest detection, weed abatement, crop statistics, wildlife services, land use information, and consumer and business protection through our weights and measures program.

New Farmer Workshop

Interested in starting your own small farm or ranch? UCCE and the Farm Bureau are partnering to put on a 1 day workshop for prospective farmers. It will be on October 24, 2025 from 9 AM - 4:30 PM. Biochar Symposium

The UCCE is hosting a series on using Ring of Fire technology to produce helpful biochar as an alternative to open pile burning. They will have an educational class on October 24, 2025 from 10am-12pm, then several on site demonstrations on October 30, November 6, and November 13.

Apple Maturities

Red Delicious, Romes, and McIntosh apples were tested and released on 9/22/2025.

Golden Delicious apples were tested and released on 8/28/2025.

Fee Increases

Beekeepers

Have you registered your hives yet this year? Remember that as a beekeeper, you are required to register your hives every year. It's free to register in El Dorado County. To register, visit beewhere.calagpermits.org.

Nursery Licensing Information

Ranch Marketing & Winery Ordinance

An Administrative Permit is now required to hold any special events under the Ranch Marketing & Winery Ordinance. To apply for an Administrative Permit, fill out the application here: Administrative Permit for Special Events Application(PDF, 214KB), and submit along with the $85 application fee.

Annual Pesticide Permit, OPID and Business Registration Renewals

We began offering 2025 permit and OPID renewals on December 1st, 2024. Please call (530) 621-5520 to make an appointment. No walk-ins accepted.

Pest control businesses and farm labor contractor registrations are now being accepted for 2025. Forms and fees for each type of registration are available on our Forms page. Payment is accepted by cash or check only. Please note that there are no fees for registration in Alpine County.
