Certified Farmers' Market

At a Certified Farmers Market, what you see is what you get. The farmer selling the produce is the same farmer who grew the produce. Certified vendors sell not just fruits and veggies, but also honey, eggs, mushrooms, microgreens, live plants, and even wine! Most of our Certified Farmers Markets also have a non-certified section where other vendors can sell products such as bakery items, meats and seafood, and artisan crafts. Some even have food trucks or live music, making them feel like a true community event. El Dorado County has over a dozen Certified Farmers Markets all over the County. There are even a few that run year round!
Shopping at local farmers markets is also affordable. By bringing the produce directly to market, farmers save on shipping, packaging, and wholesale costs and can pass those savings on to you. Many Certified Farmers Markets also accept benefits such as EBT, WIC, and Senior Nutrition Coupons. Some even participate in Market Match, a program which doubles your CalFresh benefits when spent on fresh fruits and vegetables!
If you are interested in selling your produce and want to become certified, fill out the Certified Producer Certificate form on our Forms page and bring it in to us. Give us a call at (530) 621-5520 if you have any questions about the form. If you want to sell meats or prepared foods, contact Environmental Management at (530) 621-5300 or visit them on the web.

Producers who are selling at the Certified Farmers' Markets must first obtain a certificate that is issued by the County Agricultural Commissioner. After the certificate is approved and sealed, a copy must be filed with the State. A copy of the Certified Producer's Certificate must be displayed anywhere that vendor offers their produce for sale.
Applications for Certified Farmers' Markets and Certified Producer Certificates can be found on our Forms page.
