Residential Solar Permits

On September 16, 2022, Senate Bill (SB) 379 was approved by California Governor Gavin Newsom to establish instantaneous plan review practices and create consistent permitting processes at cities and counties for automated permitting of residential solar and energy storage systems.

The County of El Dorado is proud to announce that it has partnered with Symbium to establish an automated permitting platform that complies with requirements of SB 379.

Contractors and homeowners seeking to pull permits under SB 379 will be able to apply for instantaneous plan review approval via this Symbium portal. There will be a service charge for the use of this system. Our traditional in-person service is still available for these types of permits. You may begin your application below by first verifying the address is within our county limits.

The use of the new platform is highly encouraged as it facilitates and expedites plan review and permit issuance. Every attempt has been made to make this automated permitting system available to all residential parcels within the unincorporated areas of El Dorado County. Residential parcels within airport review zones, flood zones, and parcels needing eligibility review will not be able to procure a permit. Those parcels will need to submit in person at one of our two offices. You may also find our email permit program useful.

All photovoltaic (PV) or energy storage system (ESS) applications not applying under this Symbium portal will be subject to plan review and must be applied for under one of the following corresponding permit types:

  • RES ROOF MOUNT PV
  • RES ESS
  • RES ROOF MOUNT PV WITH ESS

Please note that permit processing will take approximately 1-3 business days, depending on staff availability.
