The Long Range Planning team is responsible for helping the Board of Supervisors develop plans, policies, ordinances and programs. Long range planning involves highly complex and diverse land use decisions that require a careful balancing of competing economic, social and environmental interests.

What's New

On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the Board of Supervisors will hold a meeting to review the 2026 Administrative Zoning Ordinance Update (AZOU) package. These updates are intended to address small, noncontroversial amendments to the County Zoning Code. Meeting information will be available soon.

On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the Board of Supervisors will hold a meeting to consider amending sections 130.36.070.H and 130.36.090B.2 of the Zoning Ordinance, as recommended by the Planning Commission on July 9, 2026. The proposed amendments will allow for limited use of digital freestanding and directory signs in the El Dorado Hills Community Region. Meeting materials will be available soon. 

On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, staff will provide an update to the Board of Supervisors regarding potential temporary lodging opportunities on agricultural land. No specific changes are being proposed at this time. This is an informational meeting as requested by the Board of Supervisors on April 16, 2026, where staff was directed to return within 120 days with a summary of outreach efforts and a data/financial analysis.
