Title 130 Zoning Ordinance Updates

On July 13, 2021, the Board of Supervisors (Board) directed staff to begin focused updates to the Zoning Ordinance (Title 130 of the County Ordinance Code), including Chapter 130.36 (Signs), Chapter 130.39 (Oak Resources Conservation), and Section 130.40.130 (Communications Facilities). As part of this effort, the Board also directed staff to facilitate development and adoption of unique sign standards for the Cameron Park Community Region. Below is a timeline of key steps in the process, including opportunities for public involvement.

February 22, 2024 –

The Planning Commission held an informational workshop on the above ordinance updates and Cameron Park Sign Standards.
Workshop documents are posted under the “Public Workshops” tab.

December 3, 2024 –

The Board adopted updates to Section 130.40.130 (Telecommunications Facilities).
Final documents have been posted under “Board and Commission Agenda Items” and added to the County Code Viewer.

June 12, 2025 –

The Planning Commission recommended approval of draft signs amendments and Cameron Park Sign Standards with minor edits.

July 22, 2025 –

The Board of Supervisors approved updates to the County’s Oak Resources Conservation Ordinance (Chapter 130.39 of the Zoning Ordinance). The changes included updates for consistency with state law and the County’s Defensible Space Ordinance and to clarify existing regulations (such as those for public projects, heritage trees and in-lieu fee calculations). Updates also included changes to exemptions for fire safety work, insurance-required tree removal, and single-family parcels. An urgency ordinance was also approved for immediate adoption of specific fire safety and insurance exemptions. Click here for the hearing materials and copies of the final adopted ordinances. Project Updates

There will be additional opportunities for public involvement as the remaining components of this project move forward, including future public workshops and hearings with both the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. Board of Supervisors Public Workshop 2/25/25

The Planning and Building Department, Long Range Planning Unit, will be hosting a public workshop with the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, February 25 at 1:00 PM to request Board and public feedback regarding proposed amendments to Chapter 130.36 of the Zoning Ordinance (Signs) and draft sign standards for the Cameron Park Community Region. This meeting will be held at the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 330 Fair Lane, Building A, Placerville, California.

Planning Commission Public Workshop 2/22/24

On February 22, 2024, the Planning Commission and Long Range Planning Unit held a public workshop in the Building C Hearing Room, 2850 Fairlane Court, Placerville, CA 95667, to solicit public and Commission comments on proposed amendments to the Zoning Ordinance, including focused amendments to Chapter 130.36 (Signs), Chapter 130.39 (Oak Resources Conservation) and Section 130.40.130 (Communications Facilities). This workshop also received public and Commission feedback on the Draft Cameron Park Sign Standards as previously authorized by the Board on April 13, 2021.
