The Long Range Planning team is responsible for helping the Board of Supervisors develop plans, policies, ordinances and programs. Long range planning involves highly complex and diverse land use decisions that require a careful balancing of competing economic, social and environmental interests.

What's New

On Thursday, July 9, 2026, the County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing in the Planning Commission Hearing Room, 2850 Fairlane Court in Building C, Placerville CA 95667, at 9:00 a.m., to consider a recommendation for amending Sections 130.36.070.H and 130.36.090B.2 of the Zoning Ordinance to allow limited use of digital freestanding and directory signs in the El Dorado Hills Community Region. Click here for a copy of the public hearing notice, including how to submit written comments in advance of the hearing. Planning Commission hearing materials, including the draft Zoning Ordinance amendments, will be posted online two weeks prior to the hearing at the County's Legistar calendar system.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, the Long Range Planning team shared a voluntary online survey designed to gather public opinion on whether certain temporary supplemental income activities should be allowed on agricultural land. There are no proposed changes or updates at this time, the survey is simply meant to hear what the community thinks. Public feedback will help guide future discussions and may shape possible updates to County policies down the road.

On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the Board of Supervisors will hold a meeting to review the 2026 Administrative Zoning Ordinance Update (AZOU) package. These updates are intended to address small, noncontroversial amendments to the County Zoning Code. Meeting information will be available soon.
