When a remote location, severe trauma, winter weather conditions, or other factors threaten a patient's outcome, a helicopter air ambulance may be used to airlift the patient to a receiving hospital or trauma center, saving precious minutes. El Dorado County is served by several air ambulance services with professional and highly-trained flight crews:

California Highway Patrol - aircraft based at Auburn (Valley Division)

CALSTAR - aircraft based at McClellan, Auburn and South Lake Tahoe

REACH Air Medical Services - aircraft based at Reno, Marysville, Stockton and Sacramento
