Community Pet Pantry
Temporary Assistance Program

The Community Pet Pantry is a program of the El Dorado County Diamond Springs and South Lake Tahoe Animal Shelters, offering temporary pet food assistance to individuals and households in need. The Pantry operates solely through the generous donations of community members and local businesses, and we remain committed to supporting pet owners as resources allow.

  • Pet food will be distributed on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
(except for a 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. break at the South Lake Tahoe Shelter.)
  • Recipients must provide a valid ID to receive support.
  • The standard quantity of food provided will be up to two 1‑gallon bags of food per animal type (for example, two bags for cats and two bags for dogs). Actual quantities may vary based on the available supply at the time of distribution and the specific needs or circumstances of the household.
  • The shelter reserves the right to refuse assistance to anyone we believe may be misusing or attempting to abuse the program.

Staff are authorized to adjust the amount of support provided when unique situations warrant additional flexibility to ensure fair and appropriate assistance.
