Donations and Wish List

Donate to Help Seniors in our Community

Do you want to help seniors within your community?

The El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) gratefully accepts donations from the public to supplement and enhance services funded through the Older Americans Act. Donations help to support services to El Dorado County seniors, age 60 and over, to safely age in place within their homes and to remove social isolation. The Area Agency on Aging has been serving older adults in our community since 1979. We can’t do it without the help of community members like you!

Your gift can fund a freshly prepared home-delivered meal to a homebound senior in a rural community, cover the cost of shower safety rails for an aging adult hoping to remain living in their home, cover an annual subscription to the El Dorado County Senior Times newsletter for a low-income senior, provide craft supplies for Senior Activities classes, or even fill budget gaps so that the AAA can continue to provide free services to aging adults throughout the County of El Dorado. If you would like to help, there are many ways to support seniors in our community:

Make a Cash Donation to the local Area Agency on Aging

Your gift today will directly provide critical services to older adults right here in our community. Every donation helps provide meals, caregiver support, monthly Senior Times newsletters, daily calls to homebound seniors, elder abuse prevention, Senior Legal services, transportation, and companionship to our most vulnerable neighbors.

To make a donation by cash or check, please contact the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for more information. Please be aware that approval of donations is required. To learn more or to start the donation process, please contact the AAA at (530) 642-4833 or AAA-Donations@edcgov.us.

Volunteer at a local Senior Center

Volunteers are essential to our ability to provide services to our senior community! There are several ways to volunteer your valuable time to help older adults through your local Senior Centers. Volunteer opportunities can be 1 to 8 hours per month or can be scheduled every weekday – it’s up to you!

  • Provide reception at Senior Centers or Senior Nutrition Congregate Dining sites
  • Provide office support, including folding brochures, sending mailers, or hanging flyers throughout the community
  • Complete data entry and data collection
  • Deliver home delivered meals
  • Help in the kitchen, including serving, food preparation, and cooking
  • Train to become a certified Long Term Care Ombudsman
  • Use your knowledge and skills to instruct a weekly or monthly art/craft class
  • Become a certified Bingocize instructor and lead classes
  • Use your certifications and experience to lead a regularly scheduled activity, like line dancing, Tai Chi, yoga, chair exercises, ukelele, and more
  • Drive local seniors in the Senior Shuttle
  • Play music, games, or to help support a group activity in The Club Older Adult Day Services facility serving older adults with dementia or Alzheimer’s
  • Make calls to provide daily telephone reassurance to homebound seniors
  • And more!

Please visit the Senior Services volunteer opportunities section on the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) webpage to learn more (link) or call (530) 621-4546.

Volunteer applications are required; adults must pass a fingerprint clearance background check prior to volunteering. Minors that wish to volunteer must be accompanied by a fingerprint cleared adult chaperone.

Donate Meeting Spaces or Services

The value of public meeting rooms and community spaces for caregiver support groups, remote workshops, and senior activities, can help to offset budgeted costs and provide a valuable resource for remote and hard-to-reach communities. In addition, the donation of a portion or all of the costs for services such as advertisements or marketing materials, helps to offset budgeted costs and supports efforts to increase community outreach to eligible vulnerable community members.

Please contact the Information and Assistance Coordinator at (530) 621-6251 to learn more.

In-Memory Gift or Memorial Contribution Donations

The Area Agency on Aging accepts memorial contributions to honor you or your loved one’s positive memory. Coordination of Community Service Organization Projects

Local Community Service Organizations are a valuable part of our community, frequently providing support to local seniors by combating isolation and spreading cheer. Here are some ways that your organization can help:

  • Donate decorated cards and uplifting crafts for the AAA to deliver to homebound seniors and long-term care residents
  • Sing Christmas carols or other rehearsed songs during Senior Nutrition lunch services or for The Club Adult Day Services program members
  • Coordinate community service days (please know that volunteer applications are required and adults must have cleared fingerprinting prior to volunteering, including when chaperoning minors who are volunteering)
  • Coordinate donation drives
  • Host volunteer appreciation events

Please call the Senior Center at (530) 621-6150 to discuss project ideas and coordinate scheduling.

Voluntary Monetary Contributions for Services Received

Many of our services are provided without cost to eligible local seniors, regardless of ability to pay. The Area Agency on Aging accepts confidential and Voluntary Contributions from seniors for services rendered to them, including Senior Nutrition, Senior Legal Services, and the Long-Term Care Ombudsman. Voluntary Contributions are not tax-deductible, due to the services that were received.
