Filling Out a Hazardous Waste Label

Any container that holds hazardous waste MUST be properly labeled as hazardous waste. This requirement is most commonly satisfied through the use of hazardous waste labels. 

hazmat label.gif Labels can either be made, or they can be purchased at most safety supply stores.

The most important information to be included on the label is:

  • The words, "HAZARDOUS WASTE"
  • The waste accumulation start date.
  • The phase and composition of the waste (e.g., liquid pesticide)
  • Declaration of any particular toxic or hazardous properties (e.g., flammability, strong oxidizer, etc.)
  • Name and address of waste-generating facility.
