Rubicon Adopt-a-Trail Program

About the Adopt-a-Trail program
El Dorado County’s Adopt-a-Trail (AAT) Program is a volunteer partnership between El Dorado County Parks & Trails Division and community volunteers to help monitor and maintain the Rubicon Trail.
The Rubicon Trail has 16 trail sections that can be adopted by volunteers to complete basic trail maintenance. AAT groups are critical to helping the County accomplish valuable work at their trail section such as cleaning out energy rock dissipators and lead-in ditches, brushing and moving downed trees, monitoring for changes in trail conditions, reporting trail issues to County staff, and assisting with other trail projects.
Examples of Maintenance Activities
- Cutting back brush (brushing).
- Cleaning out culverts and drainage features.
- Installing and/or maintaining signage as approved by El Dorado County, Parks Division.
- Cutting, moving, or removing downed wood from trail.
- Using native vegetation or downed material to direct trail use away from private property.
- Maintenance of the installed Best Management Practice (BMP) installed at the locations identified on the maps provided for each section.
- Reconstruction of rock check crossing (xing), rock ditch crossing (xing), rock inlet protection, rock outlet protection, rock energy dissipater, and rock lined channel.
