Prevention Wraparound Services: Juvenile Services
This pilot program is designed to assist youth (and their families) who are at risk of involvement with, or who are involved with, the child welfare system and/or juvenile justice programs, but whose needs do not rise to the level of Specialty Mental Health Services. This program provides intensive services utilizing a strength-based, needs-driven, family-centered and community-based planning process with an emphasis on permanency, safety, and well-being. It is designed to help youth avoid restrictive and expensive placements, including group home placement, psychiatric hospitalization, and youth detention.

Stigma and Discrimination Reduction Programs
Mental Health First Aid and Community Education Project
This project is designed to provide free community education regarding Mental Health, including Mental Health First Aid, which is a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues. There are three programs available:
- Mental Health First Aid, focusing on risk-factors and mental illness in adults;
- Youth Mental Health First Aid, focusing on risk-factors and mental illness in youth ages 12 to 25; and
- Military-focused module of the adult program, which focuses on the needs of active duty military personnel, veterans and their families

Access and Linkage to Treatment Programs
Community-Based Outreach and Linkage Project
The Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) is a collaboration between the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and Behavioral Health on the West Slope. A Behavioral Health Clinician is partnered with a Crisis Intervention Trained Deputy to provide mobile crisis response services when requested by central law enforcement dispatch. PERT carefully evaluates each situation, assesses the mental health status of each individual, and provides individualized interventions in the field. PERT also follows-up individuals to increase stabilization and reduce barriers to accessing Behavioral Health services.

When calling 911, please let the dispatcher know that you are calling regarding a mental health crisis.911 will dispatch PERT or a CIT law enforcement, if available.
What to Say When Calling 911
- I’m calling about a Mental Health Emergency and request a PERT or CIT Officer.
- My name is: [your name].
- I’m calling from [your location].
- I’m calling because my [family member/ friend] is [describe in detail what is going on right now].
- Advise law enforcement if there is information on file about the person in crisis.
- Ask if it’s possible to arrive without lights or sirens.
- The 9-1-1 dispatcher will ask the following: (be clear and brief in your responses)
- Are there any acts or threats of violence?
- Are there any weapons involved?
- Where is the person experiencing the emergency located?
- Has there been a suicide attempt or has the person made threats of suicide?
- Additional information you may be asked to provide:
- The person’s mental health condition/ diagnosis and mental healthcare provider.
- Whether he/she is intoxicated or overdosed.
- Any medications the person is taking.
- Whether the person is gravely disabled and unable to care for themselves.
