In-Custody Death – March 6, 2025
On March 6, 2025, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office had an in-custody death out of the South Lake Tahoe Jail. El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office held custodial responsibility for 38-year-old Jonathan Kukartekano, of South Lake Tahoe, California.
The decedent is a caucasian male who was a pre-trial incarcerated person with the charges of 273.5(A) PC, 11364(A) HS, and 11377(A) HS; Inflict corporal injury on spouse/cohabitant/dating relationship, possess unlawful paraphernalia, possess controlled substance.
Jonathan Kukartekano was at Renown Hospital, located within the city limits of Reno, Nevada, County of Washoe, for medical care at the time of his death. The final cause of death will be released at a later time by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Coroners.
In-Custody Death – November 29, 2024
On Friday, November 29th, 2024, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office had an in-custody death in the South Lake Tahoe Jail. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office held custodial responsibility for 50-year-old Brandon Canfield, of South Lake Tahoe, California.
The decedent is a Caucasian male who was a pretrial incarcerated person pending charges for PC 664/187(A) [Attempted Murder], PC 245(A)(1) [Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Not Firearm], and PC 205 [Aggravated Mayhem].
Brandon Canfield was housed in a general population housing unit located in the South Lake Tahoe Jail, within the city limits of South Lake Tahoe, California, County of El Dorado. The final cause of death will be released at a later time by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Coroners.
In-Custody Death – June 19, 2024
On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office had an in-custody death out of the South Lake Tahoe Jail. El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office held custodial responsibility for 36-year-old James Bond, of South Lake Tahoe, California.
The decedent is a Caucasian male who was serving a 1-year jail sentence for 11352(a) HS, 11351 HS, 148.9 PC and 1203.2 PC; Transport/Sell Narcotic/Controlled Substance, Possess/Purchase for Sale Narcotic/Controlled Substance, Give False Identification to Law Enforcement, Violation of Probation.
James Bond was at Renown Hospital, located within the city limits of Reno, Nevada, County of Washoe, for medical care at the time of his death. The final cause of death will be released at a later time by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Coroners.
In-Custody Death – April 10, 2024
On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office had an in-custody death out of the South Lake Tahoe Jail. El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office held custodial responsibility for 63-year-old Walter J. Anderson, of Placerville, California. The decedent is a Caucasian male who was serving a 180-day jail sentence for 3000.08 PC, Violation of Parole.
Walter Anderson was at Barton Memorial Hospital, located within the city limits of South Lake Tahoe, County of El Dorado, for medical care at the time of his death. The preliminary cause of death according Barton Memorial Hospital, is listed as esophageal rupture and acute hypoxic respiratory failure. The final cause of death will be released at later time by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Coroners.
